This new collection from the Royal Canadian Mint was created to share the innovation and excitement of the process behind creating new products at the mint with our most valuable customers. The products in this exclusive collection are indeed the REAL TRIAL pieces that were produced when testing out the technology featured on a future coin.
Why is this special?
This is truly a unique opportunity to own a one of a kind product. Meaning, that this particular technology and the theme/imagery used on the trial coin is not the exact design or maybe even the same size of coin or blank that will be used for the actual product that will launch to the public at a future time.
These are essentially “test pieces” or “trial pieces” that were created by the R&D Lab. We are offering our customers an opportunity to own a piece of history in the making!
Are all R&D coins going to be featured in the Suite of Products?
No. Of course there will be many new and innovative products that the RCM will launch in any given year but the ones reserved for this suite are the ones that resulted in trial pieces “different” from the actual product that is being proposed at a future date. For example, the product from the R&D lab might be a trial piece of 1 oz but the actual coin to feature the same technology might be featured on a 5 oz. OR, the trial piece may be on the same blank, ie/ 5 oz, but the design and theme that will eventually be launched will be different. This is not always the case for ALL R&D products, therefore, another reason why this suite of products is even more exclusive.
