The tradition surrounding this year's 100th Grey Cup® celebration owes much to the Calgary Stampeders* and their fans. In 1948, jubilant Calgary fans swarmed to Toronto for the championship game and celebrated all over the city. Festivities included a flapjack breakfast on the steps of city hall and an infamous horse ride through the lobby of the Royal York Hotel. Calgary won 12-7 over Ottawa, to crown a 12-0 undefeated season.
Your commemorative stamp salutes that year, when the fun spirited antics of Calgary fans truly transformed the Grey Cup into a Canadian cultural festival. Your 25-cent commemorative coin also celebrates Calgary's six Grey Cup wins in 12 appearances.
