2003 is the 50th Anniversary of the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The celebrate this event, the Royal Canadian Mint has produced a 1953 Special Edition Coronation Set. This set is inspired by the coins used in 1953. The obverse features the young portrait of the Queen from 1953, as well as double-dating on the obverse.
The reverse features designs from that era as well, including the 12-sided nickel, old 50ct design and..... the popular Voyageur Silver Dollar!!!! The coins are struck in proof sterling silver, except the silver dollar (which is struck in .9999 pure silver!), and the 1ct (which is struck in copper).
